It’s the silly season and I’ve been flat out getting stuff organised as well as having a few computer problems.. so I’ve been quiet.. so it’s a bit late.. but here’s my take on the theme Grand. I love rail travel, especially the old trains which had a large does of grandeur about them. This station reminds me of a time when rail travel was an experience. I wish it was still like this.
These photos were all taken at the Clarence Railway Station which is where the famous ZigZag railway is, before the recent bushfires ripped through the area. I haven’t been back yet to see the damage.
I think the station area is pretty well intact but the rest of the infrastructure is shot. Unlikely we will see trains back there for some time.
If you head out there, go to the Monkey Creek cafe at Dargan, just down from Bell.
I’ll have to get back out there soon and have a look.. I’ve been meaning to call into the cafe for ages, so will do that in the next few weeks 🙂
Unfortunately here in the UK most of our old railway stations have been pulled down/modernised, there are still a few around but they are becoming a rarity. Great photos 🙂
I have to say, for all we’ve done wrong in our history, our railway stations have pretty much remained. The city ones have largely been modernised but most have also kept the grandeur of yesteryear.. I love railway stations. Hopefully I’ll get to see some of the older ones when I come to the UK in March 🙂
That is a really nice take on the challenge Livonne, I love railway stations like this.
Thanks Leanne. I have to go out there soon to see if it was left unharmed. Parts of the Zig Zag railway were destroyed but I’m not sure about Clarence.. I hope it’s unharmed.
